Evidence Proving the Holy Bible is True

Whether or not you doubt biblical truth, chances are you know someone who doesn’t believe in it or at least questions its validity. As followers of Jesus, we’re instructed to share the gospel with others. The Bible clarifies that Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). But quoting Scriptures for salvation doesn’t matter to someone who doesn’t believe in the Bible. Therefore, knowing the evidence of biblical truth is necessary to explain to nonbelievers or skeptics. Understanding biblical truth as a Christian is also good to strengthen one’s own faith.

In addition to being a true account of history, the Bible is God’s active love letter to us for instruction and guidance. According to the Guinness World Records website, the Christian Bible is the best-selling book of all time, with an estimated 5–7 billion sold as of 2021, not including digital downloads or Bibles sold since ("Best-Selling Book"). This stunning statistic may spark even a nonbeliever’s interest in hearing the evidence behind its truth.

Below are ten forms of evidence that prove the Bible is true. Reliable examples of each are available through articles, books, podcasts, social media, television, YouTube, and websites. See selected YouTube links at the end to support this fascinating evidence.

1.      ARCHEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE—Archaeologists and geologists at thousands of digs in the Holy Land have found evidence of biblical truth. Their findings validate the Scripture’s people, events, places, objects, and timelines, including proof of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Just a few of the many discoveries confirming the Bible’s validity are the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Ein Gedi Leviticus Scroll, the Pool of Bethesda, the Pool of Siloam, the Cyrus Cylinder, the Flagged Paving Stones of Christ’s Path, the Moabite Stone, the Pontius Pilate Inscription, the Tel Dan Inscription, the Hittite Tablets, the Nazareth House, Hezekiah’s Seal and Tunnel, the Taylor Prism, the Shroud of Turin, and the cup of Jesus ("12 Archaeological Finds That Show the Bible is Real," History Enhanced.) Dating back to 230 A.D., the Megiddo Mosaic is a recent find with an inscription translated to “God Jesus Christ.” The Shroud of Turin is believed to be the burial shroud of Jesus after His crucifixion and proof of His resurrection (see #4 and YouTube links). Associates for Biblical Research (Bible Archaeology) offers multiple videos and resources of amazing discoveries in biblical archaeology at Digging for Truth Episodes.

Archaeologists also believe they have found evidence of Noah’s Ark in Turkey. Visit Noah’s Ark (Ron Wyatt) for pictures and videos of Ron Wyatt’s work on this discovery. To view a life-sized replica of the ark, you can visit the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY Life-size Noah’s Ark | Ark Encounter. There you can learn how building the ark was possible according to Scripture.

2.      FULFILLED PROPHECY—The Bible consistently predicts specific events, people, and places from the Old Testament to the New Testament and current day. The birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus were all fulfillments of prophecy. Isaiah prophesied the birth and death of Jesus in Isaiah 53 over 700 years before it happened. King David wrote Psalm 22, which showed a prophetic picture of Jesus over 1,000 years before His crucifixion. These Scriptures are only two of over 350 times Jesus was prophesied in the Old Testament.

Astrophysicist Hugh Ross, in his blog post “Fulfilled Prophecy: Evidence for the Reliability of the Bible” (Reasons to Believe), uses probability analysis to illustrate how likely it would have been for all the biblical prophecies about Jesus to have been fulfilled by chance alone. He determined the odds would have been “less than one in ten followed by a mind-boggling string of zeros.” To show how infinitesimally small that chance is, Ross points out it is equal to “the probability of winning the California lottery 125 consecutive times purchasing just one ticket each time, a probability that is practically indistinguishable from winning the California lottery 125 consecutive times without purchasing a single ticket!”

3.      SCIENTIFIC/BIOLOGICAL EVIDENCE—Science and biology point to God. Reasons to Believe, founded by Christian astrophysicist Hugh Ross, provides various resources detailing scientific evidence of the Bible’s reliability. Ross was a former skeptic whose study of cosmology convinced him of the existence of a Creator, specifically the God of the Bible.

Dr. Sy Garte is a former atheist with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. His years of studies have revealed that evolution cannot deal with metaphysical, spiritual, or moral issues. It explains very little about the origin of life and human characteristics such as consciousness, creativity, love, genius, music, art, or science.

Soft tissue, cells, and proteins found in dinosaur fossils reveal dinosaurs are more likely to date back 6,000 years because of breakdown and decay. This evidence aligns more with the biblical timeline of Creation in Genesis for dinosaurs rather than millions of years. Despite what some believe, there are multiple Scripture references covering dinosaurs. A few examples are Genesis 1:24, Job 40:17-18, and Isaiah 27:1.

4 EXPERT SCRUTINY—Many former atheists, such as Lee Strobel and J. Warner Wallace, have become believers in Christ through failed attempts to prove the Bible false. In The Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus, Lee Strobel interviews other former skeptics and experts in the field whose research also demonstrated that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Son of God. J. Warner Wallace, in his book Cold-Case Christianity, takes an investigative approach based on his experience in law enforcement to examine the reliability of the gospel eyewitness accounts. In God’s Crime Scene, he makes the case for God’s existence. Both are now involved in ministry and speak to many groups and organizations about their findings and faith.

Shroud of Turin

David Rolfe, another former atheist, converted to a believer in Jesus after working on a film about the Shroud of Turin. It is believed to be the authentic burial shroud of Jesus. DNA evidence has traced it back to the place and time where Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected. The only possible explanation for the perfectly detailed image of a crucified man visible on the shroud is a burst of particle radiation during Jesus’ resurrection (see YouTube links). The shroud also contains blood stains in the areas of Jesus’ puncture wounds as stated in Scripture. Rolfe is offering 1 million dollars to whoever can recreate the Shroud of Turin using only tools and techniques available during that period (“Supporters offer million-dollar prize to replicate Shroud of Turin” - Catholic Review.)

5.      AFTERLIFE TESTIMONIES OF HEAVEN & HELL—While there are false testimonies of people dying and going to heaven or hell before coming back to life, many prove true by the impossible knowledge the person gained through no other plausible explanation. Some of the most convincing testimonies come from people who have been blind since birth or meet formerly deceased loved ones they never knew on earth.

John Burke is a pastor, podcaster, and NY Times best-selling author of Imagine Heaven and other books on afterlife experiences in heaven or hell. A former agnostic engineer, his curiosity about the afterlife sparked when his father was dying. He has interviewed over 1,000 people with near-death experiences who were clinically dead for minutes or hours. Their testimonies have common elements of description aligning with Scripture. Their stories of heaven include similar encounters with angels, Jesus, the same God of light and love, and deceased loved ones. Many also experienced their lives being reviewed by God. The testimonies of hell also had common elements of fire and misery.

In their second chance, they have free will to choose to follow Jesus and share their testimony. It makes sense that God would allow people to come back to bring others to salvation, including themselves. Not everyone will receive a second chance like these people. Life on earth is just a blink of an eye compared to eternity, so it’s important to follow Jesus before it’s too late. Follow Burke on social media or visit Imagine Heaven | John Burke to learn more.

6. ANSWERED PRAYERS/MIRACLES—Jesus performed many miracles in biblical days and miracles still occur today. God frequently allows these to happen in a way where there is no other natural possibility. CBN’s 700 Club, a daily television show, airs testimonies of answered prayers and miracles. You can also find their episodes at The 700 Club | CBN. My friend personally worked for CBN and verified their fact-checking before airing.

Harris Faulkner, in her book, Faith Still Moves Mountains: The Healing Power of Prayer, shares true-life, miraculous stories she has witnessed over the years as a journalist. These are just two of many resources offering true accounts of miracles resulting from prayer.

We are all walking miracles. Every breath we take, move we make, scent we smell, sight we see, and thought we think is miraculous. Humanity would not be possible without God.

7.      UNIFIED MESSAGE—The Bible is a reliable collection of 66 books written by approximately 40 or more authors (35 known) from different backgrounds and locations over 1,500+ years. They have a cohesive story with corroboration, reliability, and evidential backup. Authors include prophets, sages, historians, apostles, approved apostle associates, scribes, and scholars. Many had direct contact with God and Jesus. Indirect contact came through visions, dreams, or angels used by God as messengers. For information about each author, read “Who Wrote the Bible? Meet the 35 (Traditional) Authors” at Overview Bible. The 2023 documentary Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament shows how Jewish scribes meticulously wrote and hid the Dead Sea Scrolls to secure their preservation.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” —2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

8. SCRIPTURE LINING UP WITH CURRENT EVENTS—The following Scriptures perfectly describe our world today. We live in a world always on the go with the ability to travel worldwide by air, land, or sea. Knowledge has increased through missionaries, the internet, and satellite television, making the gospel available in most parts of the world. We must be ready for Jesus Christ to return at any time.

“But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” —Daniel 12:4 (KJV)

“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” —Matthew 24:7, 10–11, 14 (KJV)

9.      EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS—Multiple people witnessed the same events throughout the Bible. In the New Testament, the apostles who followed Jesus shared their eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ many teachings and miracles, including His death and resurrection. Paul gives us a detailed account of the number of witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection:

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.” —1 Corinthians 15:3–8 (KJV)

“And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly.” —Acts 10: 39–40 (KJV)

“For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” —2 Peter 1:16 (KJV)

10. THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS TO PEOPLE WITH CONFIRMATION—Christianity is based on a relationship with Christ. Prophets are not the only ones who hear God’s voice. When people accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they receive the Holy Spirit and the ability to hear His voice.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” —John 10:27 (KJV)

In addition to speaking to us directly in our minds and hearts, He speaks to us through books, devotions, dreams, sermons, visions, and other people. He confirms this by being consistent, persistent, and repetitive. Scripture is one of the primary ways He speaks to us, which is why it is important to be in the Word. I believe because the Holy Spirit speaks to me and has given me confirmation time and time again. I’ve heard many testimonies of similar experiences from others.

Each form of evidence individually is enough to prove the Bible is true. No other religion has evidence validating its accuracy like Christianity. We all have the choice to believe the Bible or not. Believing in the Bible brings no negative consequences for Christians. Their earthly lives are more fulfilled because of the joy, hope, peace, and love they receive through faith. Scripture describes heaven as beautiful with no mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). On the other hand, nonbelievers are risking an eternity in hell. Scripture describes hell as a furnace of fire where there is misery (Matthew 13:49–50). God sent Jesus to save all who choose to believe, repent, and follow Him.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” —John 3:16 (KJV)

We all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Jesus did not come to condemn the world, but to save it (John 3:16–17). There is no sin too big for God to forgive. You can confess your sins and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart for salvation at any time, even right now. He loves you and wants you to have everlasting life with Him.

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” —Acts 3:19 (KJV)

“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” —2 Peter 1:2 (KJV)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” —John 1:1 (KJV)

If you still struggle to believe the Bible, please read the linked articles and watch the YouTube videos below. This is a small selection of the many available videos and resources providing reliable and true evidence. I also encourage believers to view the links for knowledge and sharing purposes.

In summary, the Holy Bible has been proven as accurate, reliable, and true. I pray you will allow God’s Word to bless and guide you.
