Faith Boosters to Overcome Fear

Is fear overpowering your faith? Do you feel crippled by anxiety?

It’s nearly impossible to get through a day without experiencing fear in today’s world. Data breaches, deadly viruses, disastrous storms, food and medicine recalls, unsolved murders, political battles, and wars are just a few of our terrifying daily headlines. It’s enough to put someone in a fetal position without adding personal struggles and worries, especially for those raising children in today’s world.

Fear robs us of our faith. The Bible stresses the importance of believing and having faith in God to answer prayers (Matthew 17:20). Hundreds of Scriptures instruct us to have faith, believe, trust in the Lord, and fear not. One verse commonly quoted is Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV).

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

To help overcome your fears, incorporate these ten faith boosters into your daily routine.

1.      Read the Holy Bible

God has blessed us with comforting truth in His Word. Prioritize time to read your Bible each day. In addition to reading His Word, YouTube has videos with instrumental Christian music, beautiful scenery, and Scripture verses that appear on the screen. Watching those is a relaxing and comforting way to receive God’s words.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
—Hebrews 4:12

2.      Fervent Prayer Time

Present your fears to God in fervent prayer. Schedule 15 minutes of quiet time in serious, specific, and strategic prayer. This is in addition to your normal prayers at bedtime, meals, and as needed throughout each day. Remember to take time to listen for His voice.

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
—Matthew 6:6

3.      Give Your Fears to God

Write your fears on individual cards or paper. Place them in a prayer jar, basket, or bowl with a cross to symbolize giving them to God. Pray over each fear. When you worry about a specific one, remove it to recognize you’re not trusting God with that fear. Pray over it again and place it back in the container.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
—Philippians 4:6-7

4.      Answered Prayers and Miracles

Miracles happen every day through faith and prayer. Reading or seeing stories of miraculous answers to prayer is a surefire way to enhance your faith. Harris Faulkner, in her book, Faith Still Moves Mountains: The Healing Power of Prayer, shares true-life, miraculous stories she has witnessed over the years as a journalist. CBN’s The 700 Club (www.cbn.com) also offers true-life, inspiring testimonies of answered prayers in their daily program. Search online for other good books or videos containing testimonies of answered prayers and miracles.

He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.
—Deuteronomy 10:21

5.      Paste Faith Scriptures

Paste faith Scriptures in frequent visible places such as your car, bathroom mirror, closet door, refrigerator, work desk, etc. You can write a faith Scripture each week on a Post-it note to repeat for memorization.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
—2 Timothy 3:16

6.      Praise Him through Worship

Listening to praise and worship songs can drive out the spirit of fear. Songs with lyrics of faith and trust can especially be helpful. “Give Me Faith” and “Trust in God” by Elevation Worship and “Trust in You” by Lauren Daigle are a few suggestions.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
—Colossians 3:16

7.      Mustard Seed Jewelry and Faith Decor

Mustard seed Scriptures show us it only takes a small amount of faith for God to answer. Wall decor with faith Scriptures offers a frequent reminder to have faith. I bought a bag of mustard seeds from Israel and have enjoyed making necklaces and filling small glass containers with them for gifts. Mustard seed necklaces and bracelets are available at different online retailers. They serve as a great reminder to have faith.

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
—Matthew 17:20

8.      Sermons on Faith

Listen to sermons on faith when struggling with fear. There is a good selection of faith sermons on YouTube or certain apps.

But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
—Luke 11:28

9.      Choose Faith over Fear

Consciously choose faith over fear. Don’t let the enemy steal precious time you can’t get back. If it helps, document or color code your days in a calendar to track how much time the enemy is stealing from you.

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
—Psalm 34:4

10. Take a Break from the News.

While it’s important to stay informed through reliable news sources, the media can add to your anxiety and fears. Replace your time spent on the internet, social media, or watching the news with the above faith enhancers. Focus on your blessings and faith in Jesus instead of the noise of this world. Make the most of each day.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
—Romans 12:2

“God has not given us a spirit of fear,” as 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us. Recognize that fear is from the enemy, not God. Exceptions are when it’s a fear of something dangerous to protect us from harm or fear of the Lord. The Bible instructs us over 100 times to fear the Lord.

Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
—Psalm 33:8

The enemy wants to steal our faith and joy by crippling us with anxiety and fear (John 10:10). When we fear, we give the enemy a victory because we’re not trusting God.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
—James 4:7

Incorporate the above faith boosters to overcome fear. Each day is a gift, so don’t waste any time living in fear. Remember, faith is important in having our prayers answered. Trust in our omniscient God who sees what we can’t see to work all things together for our good.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
—John 14:27

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
—Romans 8:28
